    Where to Watch Instant Answer

Millions of people—per-day—want to know where they can watch a specific movie or TV show. Until now, on DuckDuckGo, they’ve not had a way to do this without just seeing a bunch of links.

I chose to pick up this project as it’s something I’ve been desperate to have myself. And I chose to take on the entire project end-to-end (bar the backend work).

    Summary

Taking the reins as the Project Lead, Product Designer, and Frontend Engineer, I had the opportunity to provide a comprehensive solution for millions of DuckDuckGo users seeking to discover where to watch specific movies or shows. This project, which I managed end-to-end, was not just about answering a query, but providing a smooth and efficient user experience that bypassed the need to hunt through indiscriminate and infinite links.

The core challenge was to develop a minimal yet impactful solution that would serve as a valuable feature now and in the future. The outcome was a comprehensive grid, showing the top 6 platforms for streaming (expandable to the maximum number of providers delivered) of any given movie or TV show. However, it wasn't without its complexities, primarily stemming from gaps in API data, specifically around provider logo assets.

By cultivating a new module type and defining design rubrics and a golden dataset, this project signifies a significant step towards enhancing DuckDuckGo's utility as a platform for entertainment queries. The finished UI enabled users to find where to watch their preferred movies or shows efficiently.
